From Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam to Utrecht: you can take a train two times per hour:  --:14 / --:44 directly to Utrecht Centraal (Beware of pickpockets!!) . Costs € 7,60 (2nd class) and € 12,90 (1st class) for a single ticket bought at the ticket machine (Prices February 2008). Tickets bought at the ticket window cost € 0,50 extra.
It is not possible to buy train tickets in the train!

How to reach us by bus

From the Central Railroad Station Utrecht to University Centre De Uithof (the Physics Departments are situated in the North West corner of the Uithof): Take bus number 11 (white-blue, east side station), direction De Uithof/WKZ, and get off the bus at busstop 'Botanische Tuinen/Princetonplein'. Cross the street and walk to the Minnaert Building at  Leuvenlaan 4.  You can also take bus numbers 12 or 12S (white-blue, east side station), direction De Uithof/AZU, and get off the bus at busstop Kruytgebouw (Padualaan).

From the busstop to our lab

Enter the Minnaert building, take immediately the stairs on your left-hand side to the first floor and walk to the end of the hall along the pond, cross the bridge on the right from the Minnaertbuilding to the Buys Ballot laboratory, walk through the Buys Ballot laboratory and cross the bridge on the same first floor from the Buys Ballot laboratory to the Ornsteinlab, where you will find us on the ground floor (so take one stairs down).

Bustickets

The only kind of bustickets sold by the busdriver is the 'strippenkaart', containing 2, 3 and 8 'strippen', at a price of resp. € 1,60, € 2,40 and € 6,40. City rides from the Railroad Station Utrecht to 'De Uithof` (white-blue GVU-bus) cost 3 'strippen'.  (Prices: March 2007). You can find information on local busses at GVU (Gemeentelijk Vervoersbedrijf Utrecht).

 

By car:

There are various routes to University campus De Uithof, depending on the direction you drive from. De Uithof is easily accessible by car and there are plenty of parking facilities. You can find a map of Utrecht and the university campus here.

From Amsterdam (e.g. Schiphol):

Take the A2 motorway to Utrecht. Approaching the city, take the Utrecht Noord exit onto the N230. Follow the N230 and take the A27 exit.

On the A27 motorway, follow the 'De Uithof' sign at the 'Rijnsweerd' intersection; this takes you onto the A28 motorway. On the A28, take the first exit marked ‘De Uithof’.

From The Hague / Rotterdam or Arnhem:

Take the A12 motorway to Utrecht. On the A12, take the ‘Amersfoort’ exit onto the A27 motorway at the ‘Lunetten’ intersection. On the A27, follow the ‘De Uithof’ sign at the ‘Rijnsweerd’ intersection. On the A28, take the first exit to ‘De Uithof’.

From Hilversum or Breda:

Take the A27 motorway to Utrecht. On the A27, take the ‘De Uithof’ exit onto the A28 at the ‘Rijnsweerd’ intersection.

On the A28, take the first exit to ‘De Uithof’.

From Amersfoort:

Take the A28 motorway to Utrecht. On the A28, take the ‘De Uithof’ exit (after the Zeist / Den Dolder exit)

From Den Bosch and Eindhoven:

Take the A2 motorway to Utrecht.

On the A2, take the ‘Amersfoort’ exit to the A27 at the ‘Oudenrijn’ intersection.

On the A27, take the ‘Amersfoort’ exit to the A28 at the ‘Lunetten’ intersection.

On the A28, take the first exit to ‘De Uithof’.

You will enter De Uithof from the north via the ‘Universiteitsweg’ (University Road). On the campus, the various buildings are clearly sign-posted.
