Summary

Korai Orom is a Hungarian band known for its ability to fuse psychedelic rock, Eastern European folk and Shamanian influences. This album contains remixes of their work by several band members, internatinal DJs, some members of Hungarian band Yonderboi and some less known people. The bio claims this album gives an idea of the new-style Hungarian alternative music.

The music

I'm pretty cynical about remix albums, in most cases I didn't like the result, even if I did like the original material. Granted, I can't claim to know the original Korai material all that well, but what I can hear, easily, is that the material on this disc is very much dance oriented.

That pretty much sets the perimeter for this disc. Most stuff is rather rhythmical, drum 'n' bass, really, some other stuff is a bit more dreamy (7/8, Balkan Beach), eurodance (Power Plant, Shaman Diszko) or even raggamuffin (Ragapani). A dreamy synth or a trumpet sample, however, can't hide that this is a dance album.

And then, after 17 tracks of dance, closer Bela Ba is a traditional track, with citar, bouncing beans and Hungarian vocals. Pretty folky, really.

Conclusion

If you like drum 'n' bass, or clubbing, you might consider giving this one a spin. If you're looking for prog, though, leave it be.
