CAN ONE RECONCILE THE PHYSICS OF BLACK HOLES

WITH THE LAWS OF QUANTUM MECHANICS?

Proc. of the 1st Jagna International Workshop on ``Advances in Theoretical Physics'' 4-7 January 1995, Jagna, Bohol, Philippines. Eds. C.C. Bernido et al., Central Visayan Inst. Jagna, Bohol. 1996.

A brief review is presented of the considerations leading to the investigation of the important problem of ``quantizing" black holes. It may well be that requiring consistency in this domain will imply important constraints on any candidate theory for quantum gravity.
