My graduation paper, written together with Ful van der Wel, resulted in a publication:
The Archiwum Mechaniki Stosowanej (now called Archives of Mechanics) is an incredibly obscure Polish journal with abstracts in english, polish and russian.
- On baroclinic instability in the case of vanishing viscosity, W. Eckhaus, H.P. Penning, F.V. van der Wel,abstract In the two-layer model, describing baroclinic instability, viscosity plays a subtle role. The marginal stability curves for the non-viscous model and the one for the viscous model with viscosity tending to zero, do not coincide. An explanation in terms of polynomials with complex coefficients is given and the growth-rate for decreasing viscosity is calculated.
