"Yesterday is History, Tomorrow a Mystery, Today is a Gift, Thats why it's called the Present"

Welcome to my home page

First a few words about myself. I am an assistant professor at Utrecht University, where I also started my academic career. I studied Physics and Astronomy and I graduated in 1997 in the field of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography. With my master research I entered the field of ice and climate research, which I never left. My main research interest is polar meteorology both from an observational and a modelling point of view. I work with observations from Automatic Weather Stations on a.o. Antarctica, Greenland, and Svalbard. In addition I apply regional atmospheric climate models to these areas. Both observations and the model results are used to asses the current state of these ice sheets and ice caps, and estimate future changes with respect to their contribution to sea level rise.

Research interests

a. Automatic Weather Station on Nordenskiöldbreen, Svalbard
b. Svalbard surface mass balance (in mm water equivalent per year) from RACMO2
c. GPS instrument on Nordenskiöldbreen, Svalbard
