Deze inleiding in de correspondentie analyse beschrijft deze als een factor analyse methode op basis van categoriale variabelen. Ik zou deze techniek kunnen inzetten door de SAND-data in de volgende vorm te analyseren: in de kolommen komen de 267 locaties en in elke rij staat een syntactische variabele. In elke cel staat de numerieke waarde voor de syntactische variabele zoals opgemeten op deze SAND-locatie. Deze opzet staat overigens bekend als Multipele Correspondentie Analyse.
Preciezer geformuleerd:
"Correspondence analysis is a descriptive/exploratory technique designed to analyze two-way and multi-way tables containing some measure of correspondence between the rows and columns. The results provide information which is similar in nature to those produced by factor analysis techniques, and they allow one to explore the structure of categorical variables included in the table."
