In Norwegian Dialects Examined Perceptually and Acoustically uit 2003 door Wilbert Heeringa & Charlotte Gooskens (in: John Nerbonne and William Kretzschmar (eds.), Computers and the Humanities, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, volume 37, number 3, 2003, pp. 293-315) wordt onderzocht in welke mate fonetische Levenshtein afstanden corresponderen met de psycho-akoestische perceptie van dialectafstanden door Noorse dialectsprekers.

Uit de abstract:
"Gooskens (2003) described an experiment which determined linguistic distances between 15 Norwegian dialects as perceived by Norwegian listeners. The results are compared to Levenshtein distances, calculated on the basis of transcriptions (of the words) of the same recordings as used in the perception experiment."
