Tesamen met het opnieuw lezen van het gerelateerde paper Historical Implications of a Formal Theory of Syntactic Variation heb ik nu tevens Methods in parametric linguistics and cognitive history van Giuseppe Longobardi gelezen.
From the introduction:
"This paper presents some preliminary reflections on the foundations of a developing branch of the language sciences, parametric linguistics; the latter will be understood as a key component of two interrelated and complementary
enterprises aiming to bring cognitive science to deal with issues of cultural variation: one investigates the relative contribution of nature and the environment to the shaping of human mind, the other approaches problems of
reconstruction of the past and historical explanation . Sections 1-4 will be devoted to general issues of cultural variation and of the nature-nurture question, sections 5-6 to historical explanation."
