The Design
The Beetle Activity Monitors were used in an experiment about Circadian Rhythm of insects. Two boxes with 64 BAMs were carried to the MIR space station by Space Shuttle Atlantis in May 1997, to return in October 1997. The unit contains a switch, operated by the rotating tredmill, so walking of the bug causes a contact to open and close repeatedly.

This Object
The unit was built in Moscow, according to the scientist selling it to me. It has actually been in outer space, which makes it nice, but otherwise there is nothing one can do with it. I don't keep beetles.
