The Design

My Philips D2999 covers the usual LW (from 150kHz) and the frequencies between Long and Medium Wave, but nothing lower than LW frequencies. Stuff to find there includes Grimeton transmissions, time stations, 2200m-ham operators. The converter allows to receive these frequencies with a normal receiver, tuned 10000kHz higher.

The LG Converter has an input filter consisting of L's and C's, an SA612 mixer (driven by a 10MHz crystal), and a coupling output transformer. The output frequencies (10 to 10.5 MHz) are close enough to the 10.7MHz IF for FM receivers that a standard IF transformer can be used.

Sound samplePLAY SOUND   The program of DCF77 may appear a little bit monotonic, but this program is immensely popular. DCF77 synchronizes clocks all over the continent. Once you get the beat, then suddenly it appears to skip one, and then... the minute hand of your watch moves.

This Object

The set was ordered from Kent Electronics and arrived a few days later.

The package contains the PCB (holes already drilled in my case), all parts that must be soldered on it, and the description. Assembly is a true piece of cake and, if you don't forget to solder one connection (like I did), it will probably work right away.
