The Design
All through the occupation, Philips engineers had hidden some stock of radio parts from the Germans in the Philips plant's attics, and they were able to construct a transmitter within weeks. Herrijzend Nederland aired in October 1944. Radio production was started almost immediately, and the 208U was the first post-war model. This model history makes the type interesting (in my view), but it is not very rare; a significant number of 208U were produced.

This Object
The radio was handed to me with a complaint of too much hum. This often is caused by a leaking coupling capacitor. This causes the current through the output tube to rise, and thus the smoothing effect of the filter caps is insufficient. When inspecting the set, I found that the power chord had been replaced by a white chord, and there was significant cracking from the volume pot.
I decided to change the coupling (C106) and rattle (C110) cap, the output tube decoupling elco (C75), and the power chord. I cleansed the volume pot.
