The box shows how to connect this to your radio. But you needn't connect it if you don't want to: placing the loop near a radio (with ferrite rod) will already improve reception dramatically.

The inside of the black base is deceptively simple. 
There are just two wires coming from the main loop to the tuning capacitor, and two wires from the pickup coil to the jack. For the rest the cabinet is empty. To open the base, you need to unscrew four screws, hidden in the bottom under four little soft pads.
